Things to Ask Yourself:
|
IV. Presentation by Chris & Lorenzo
V. Black Feminist Understandings of Temporality
A good composition class will always ask you to do some form of writing during the class session. The idea here is that writing is NOT to be used for capitalistic or carceral processes (i.e., a finished/graded product, timed quizzing, test of recall, regurgitation, proof of learning, mimicry, pontification, etc). Be prepared to do some in-class writing today as a way to process, to be present to what you are learning/thinking through, to let your mind and spirit roam free, to make all kindsa connections, to make mistakes, to admit confusion, and/or to just say WTF you gotta say!
In writing today, respond to all of the following:
1. As you listen to Brittney Cooper's talk, take note of 1-2 comments that impact you (positive or negative). Why that?
2. What connections can you make between Brittney Cooper and Tamika Carey? The presentation today by Chris and Lorenzo?
3. Think of an example--- connected to educational institutions preferably--- where racialized time was in operation. What happened? What did you do? Or, another way to get at this: where did white resistance show up as a slow-down? Or, another way to get at this: where did white resistance show up as extra time and labor for Brown and Black bodies?
4. Be prepared to talk and share in an open discussion.
