- What was your summer like?
III. Review & Discussion of Syllabus Zine (click here for PDF w/ Clickable TOC)
- You have three points of entry: hardcopy (available for pick-up on Wednesday), this website, and D2L
- Website goes fully public on Thursday with Dr. Pritchard's class
- Make sure you understand next week's assignment
- Make note of the site password! Please do NOT give the password to anyone other than those in this classroom!
- Here is the link for where you can find next week's reading.
IV. INTRODUCING.... Undrowned: Black Feminist Lessons from Marine Mammals by Alexis Pauline Gumbs
- As a pedagogical principle, think about ways of introducing an assigned reading/topic/task so that students/communities have a way into it rather than meeting it cold (this is a school literacy and not always an authentic task)
- Read the excerpt (introduction): click here for PDF
- Take notes on all of the following: what questions do you have for/about Gumbs? What resonated with you and why? Where did you experience cognitive closures and why? How would you define Gumbs's work here as Black feminist practice?
- Be prepared to share with colleagues
V. Today's Closing Discussion:
Review of the Hype Presentation with Spring 2022 Undergraduate Example from First Day of Presentations
